Hair Extension Question

Question: How long should I wear a my sew in?

Thank you for your question. A sew in should be worn no longer than 2 to 2 1/2 months. The hair grows on average a half an inch per month. This is based on having a healthy scalp and getting the proper nutrition which promotes healthy hair. This means that you should have at least a little over an inch with each re-do.

Your extensions should be removed before the 2 1/2-month mark due to the fact that the weight of the hair is being carried by the hair because it’s no longer being anchored at the base of the scalp. With at least an inch of re-growth the hair has to be taken down and re done.

It would also be time to take down your braids and shampoo and properly condition your natural hair. If needed a protein treatment to strength the hair is suggested. Only healthy hair can hold extension. The goal is always to be able to have the option of wearing your natural hair if at all possible.

Ladies have fun don’t be afraid to try a new look or add a track or two for fullness or for highlight.

Until the next time stay FABULOUS!
