Memories of Mother’s Day; Granny, Mom and Me

MomDayImageblogpost400x600My Mother’s Day memories always included family, fun, and food. As a child I remember the weekend starting with my mother preparing for Sunday dinner starting on Saturday. There were lots of different dishes to make so mom would start early. Then on Sunday morning, I remember my mom getting my brother and I ready for Sunday School and Sunday church service.

I also remember the church was always full on Mother’s Day! We usually caught the Sunday school bus to Sunday school instead of mom or dad taking us there. After mom finished dinner, she would meet us there. I recall several Mother’s Day’s in Sunday school, us making a card and presenting it to mom at church.

And after church? We were always one of the last families to leave. My Mom was usually talking with her friends while we were playing with ours.

Once we got back home it was time to call all of the other “mothers” in our lives. We’d call our grandmother, aunts, and all the mothers in our family to wish them a Happy Mother’s day. Since my grandmother didn’t live in the same state that we did, we would usually mailed her gift to her. I couldn’t wait to speak with her to see if she liked the gift I’d given to her.

Mother’s Day Dinner was always amazing! My mom always made a wonderful dinner! Honey, she can COOK! I mean really, REALLY cook! After dinner there was always desert…peach cobbler (sometimes with ice cream) or a pound cake or sometimes both. These childhood memories of Mother’s Day are embedded deep within my heart.

grannyI no longer have my Grandmother here with me…she has traded her earthly body for her Angel wings. One of her favorite sayings was “I don’t believe God has brought me this far to leave me “. I’m so thankful for her faith and belief in Jesus which she passed to her daughter…my mother, and my mother has passed on to me.

My mother is one of my hero’s! I love her so much! Her strength inspires me to be better. She taught me about my personal values and how to understand my worth. She led and continues to lead by example each and every day. And if I didn’t “get it”, she loudly and boldly spoke it again. If I STILL didn’t get it, well you know what was next. I’m so Thankful to my mom for the sacrifices she made and the personal things she went without to make sure we had what we needed.

momandmetodayMy mother is a Virtuous Woman! I’m also glad God allowed her experience being a grandmother to my boys. Her grandson’s love her so much, and she’s always there when they need her. She told me that “These are my babies…y’all just had them”. And she was right.

My mom tells me if she doesn’t like something that I’m doing, just like my grandmother did. I would bet my last dime that our sons tell on us all the time, just like I use to tell my grandmother on my mom (LOL!). Of course, I will never know… just like she didn’t know. (Grandmother’s keep the best secrets!)

If I turn out to be half of the woman my mother is, then I would have succeeded.

I Love You Mom! Happy Mother’s Day!

Please share with me some of your Mother’s Day memories in the comments. I’d love to read them!
